Lisa Lee Herman is a Florida Keys marine artist known forgyotaku, the traditional Japanese method of making an impression directly from a real fish. Her process starts with the actual fish, using nontoxic ink and traditional paper to capture details like the scales and fins, then she finishes the piece with color and other artistic touches. Her connection to the Keys also runs deep: her family has been coming to Islamorada since the 1960s, and she now works out of Islamorada.
